Lactogenic plants and their methods of preparation in traditional breeding farms in Benin

TheinventoryoflactogenicplantsandtheirmodesofpreparationwerecarriedoutinAlibori,Borgou,CollinesandMonofromApril22thtoAugust05th,2013.Asampleof142cattle-breederswasinterviewedduringthedata-gathering.nbsp;Thesurveyindicatedthatcattle-breedersusevariousorgansofplantssuchasthebark(34%),theroots(32%),theleaves(30%),theseeds(29%)andthefruits(13%)toincreasemilkproduction.Variousmodesofpreparationareused:thecoldextract(51,6%),thedecoction(32,6%),thepowder(13,7%)andthepomade(2,1%).Theoralwayisusedmost(97%).Thedurationofthetreatmentisuntilthereisasatisfactiryresukt.nbsp;Alltherecipesarepreparedwithoutrecoursetoexpensiveproducts,thusensuringtheirsustainability.Theplantsmostusedinthegalactagoguereceiptsarecowpea(Vignaunguiculata),Euphorbiabalsamifera,CucurbitamaximaandSwartziamadagascariensis.
