Hatchability of Deshi, Fayoumi, RIR and Sonali chicken in forced draft incubator and under broody hens in Bangladesh

AnexperimentwasconductedtodeterminethehatchabilitypotentialsofIndigenous,Fayoumi,RhodeIslandRedandSonali(RhodeIslandRedXFayoumi)chickenandcomparedamongthegenotypesbyusingforceddraftincubatorandbroodyhens.Atotalof384(96fromDeshi,96Fayoumi,96RIRand96Sonali)hatchableeggswereobtainedfromacommercialhatcheryforthestudyallowedtohatchinforceddraftincubatorandunderbroodyhens.Thetraitsconsideredwereeggweight(g),chickweight(g/b),chickweightaspercentofeggweight,deadingerm(%),deadinshell(%)andhatchability(%).EggweightwasthehighestinRIRfollowedbySonali,FayoumiandDeshi.ChickweightwasthehighestinRIR,similarandintermediateinFayoumiandSonaliandthelowestinDeshi.Chickweightwashigherfromeggshatchedunderthebroodyhensthaninthosehatchedinincubator.Genotypedidnotinteractwithmethodofhatchingtoinfluencechickweight.Chickweight%ofeggweightwashigherinRIR,butsimilarandlowerinFayoumi,Deshi,andSonali.Deadingerm,deadinshellandhatchabilitywerenotalteredbytheinteractionofgenotypeandhatchingsystem.FromtheresultsofthestudyweconcludethathatchingresultsforRIRrankthebestandDeshichickenseemedtobetheworstinthesetraits.
