A42-daystudyonsubchronictoxicityofthesteepedandcookedtaromealwasconductedusing16malesand16females28-dayoldrats.Cornmealwassubstitutedinacompleterandomizeddesigneitherat0,25,50,or100%levelswithsteepedandcookedtaromealintheusualrats'diet.Theincorporationofsteepedandcookedtaromealinthedietdidn'thaveanysignificanteffect(p0.05)onfeedconsumption,weightgain,andfeedefficiencyratioofratsandonthemacroscopicstateoforgansfromtestedanimals.Nosignificantdifference(p0.05)wasrecordedbetweenthegroupsofanimalsforrelativeweightsoftheorgansandstudiedbloodparameters.Nosignificanteffect(p0.05)oftarowasrecordedontotalhepaticproteins,totalserumcholesterolandalanineaminotransferase.However,totalserumproteinsandaspartateaminotransferasesignificantly(p0.05)decreasedwithincreasingincorporationofsteepedandcookedtaromealinthedietofrats.Thesteepedandcookedtaromealwasnotfoundtoxicatshort-termandcouldberecommendedforanimalfeeding.
