Thisstudyhadtheobjectivetoanalyzethecompositionandthesomaticcellcount(SCC)ofmilkinfarmsmanagedbyconventionalandagro-ecologicalsystemsofproduction,localizedinDepress#227;oCentral,RioGrandedoSulState,southregionofBrazil.Threeagro-ecologicalfarmswereidentifiedintheregionandwerecomparedwithfiveconventionalfarms.nbsp;Samplesofmilkweretakenintheautumn-winterandspring-summerperiodsandanalyzedforprotein,fat,lactose,totalsolidsandSCC.Milkyieldsandcontentsoffatandproteininthemilkwerehigherintheconventionalsystem,whilelactosewashigherandSSClower,nbsp;intheagro-ecologicalsystem.Themaindifferencebetweenthefarmswastheuseoforganicmanureonthegrassland,agreaternumberofgrazingpaddocks,higherlevelofconcentratefeeding,lesstimespentininthepenswhereroughageswerefed,anduseofnbsp;homeopathicandphytoterapicproductsforcontrolofmastitisandparasites,intheagro-ecologicalcomparedwithconventionalfarms.
