Fourdietswithdifferentproportionsofensiledbananapseudostem(BS)andensiledtarofoliage(TF)werefedtoMooLathpigs(26.3±0.31kgliveweight)accordingtoa4*4Latinsquaredesign.Proteinlevelswhichwerehigherintarofoliagewerebalancedbyaddingsoybeanmealindecreasingquantitiesastarofoliagereplacedbananapseudo-steminthediets.Correspondingproportionsofbananapseudo-stemandtarofoliageintheensiledmixturewere(%asDM):BS0:0-75,BS25:25-72,BS45:45-35andBS65:65-20.Byerrorofjudgment,brokenricewasincludedindietBS45at9%andindietBS0at25%,whenitshouldhavebeenacommonlevelinalldiets.TherewereincreasesinapparentdigestibilityofDMandcrudeprotein(CP),andinNretention,whentarofoliageratherthanbananapseudo-stemwasthebasisofthediet.ApparentDMdigestibilityandNretentionwereimproved(thelatterwasincreasedby40%)when25%brokenricewasaddedtothedietcomposedmainlyofensiledtarofoliage.Thevariablequantitiesofbrokenriceinthedietsarenotconsideredtohaveinfluencedtheoverallconclusionthattarofoliagewasmuchsuperiortobananapseudo-stemasthebasaldietforMooLathpigs.
