TheeffectoftheKatahdinbreedonpostweaninggrowth,carcassyieldanditscomponentsofsheepinfeedlotsystemmanagedinelevatedcageswereevaluated.Eighteenlambsperracialgroup(Katahdin(K),Katahdin×Dorper(KD)andKatahdin×Pelibuey(KP))wereused,withaverageinitialweightandageof18.6kgand60days,respectively.Animalswerefeedwithacommercialconcentratewith16%ofcrudeprotein.Datawereanalyzedusingaone-wayanalysisofvariancethatincludedtheracialgroupastheonlysourceofvariation.TheracialgroupKDgrewfaster,hadhigherfinalbodyweightandlessdaysduringfatteningcomparedtoKandKPlambs(P0.05).Nodifferences(P0.05)weredetectedinslaughterweight,performanceandcarcasscomponentsamongtheracialgroups.
