AstudywasconductedtoexaminetheeffectoffourlevelsofVignahaysupplementationonfeedintake,digestibilityandgrowthrateofindigenouscattle.Twelveindigenousbullcalves(age2-3yearsandaverage83.4kgliveweight)wererandomlyassignedto4groupsandfed4experimentaldietsVM0=Basaldiet+0g(DM)vignahay,VM106=Basaldiet+106g(DM)vignahay,VM212=Basaldiet+212g(DM)vignahayandVM318=Basaldiet+318g(DM)vignahay.Thebasaldietwasformulatedwithricestraw,wheatbran,ricepolishings,mustardoilcakeandmolasses.Measurementsweremadeoffeedintake,digestibilityandgrowthrate.Alltheanimalswereofferedadlibitumricestraw.StrawandtotalDMintakesandapparentdietdigestibilitycoefficientswereincreased,andliveweightgainandfeedconversionwereimproved,byaddingincreasingamountsofVignahaytothediets.Basedontheabovefindingsitmaybeconcludedthatsupplementationofstraw-baseddietswithvignahayimprovesfeedintake,nutrientdigestibilityandliveweightgainofindigenouscattle.
