Anthelminticresistancehasseriouslyunderminedhelminthcontrolinruminants.Faecaleggcountreductiontests(FECRT)conductedbetween5thand27thJanuary2015establishedprevalenceofanthelminticresistantnematodesinagoatandacattleherd.Studyanimalswereidentifiedthroughapre-treatmentfaecaleggcounts(FECs)where116goatsand60cattlewithFECs#8805;150wereselected.Theanimalswereallocatedintofourtreatmentgroupsnamelythecontrol(untreated),valbazen,Nilzanplusandivermectinusingacompleterandomiseddesign.ValbazenandNilzanpluswereadministeredperosat10mg/kgand7.5mg/kg,respectivelytotheexperimentalgoatsandcattle.Ivermectinwasinjectedsubcutaneouslyaroundtheneckat200mcg/kg.nbsp;Fourteendayspost-treatment,experimentalanimalsineachofthe4groupswerefaecalsampledforFECsandpersistingnematodespecies.Goatstreatedwithvalbazen,NilzanplusandivermectinhadFECreductionof16%,90%and98%.ThisshowedthatValbazenandNilzanpluswereineffectiveagainstnematodesofgoats.Haemonchusspeciespersistedamongstgoatstreatedwiththe3drugs.Valbazen,NilzanplusandNoromectintreatmentofcattleresultedin98%,95%and99%reductioninFECs.Althoughallthe3drugswereeffectiveagainstnematodesincattle,Ostergiaspeciespersistedamongstcattletreatedwiththe3drugs.MoleculartoolsareneededtoconfirmprevalenceofmultipleresistantHaemonchusandOstertagiaspeciesinthesemi-aridregionofKenya.
