Use of the banana plant (Musa spp.) for the control of parasites in domestic animals: from empiricism to science

Literaturewasreviewedaimingtocompileempiric,technicalandscientificinformationabouttheuseofthebananaplant(Musaspp.)forthecontrolofparasitesindomesticanimals.Theanalysisofthedatashowsthenecessityofamultidisciplinarysearchinordertocollectinformationaboutthepalatabilityandconsumptionrelatedtoanimalcategoryandspecies,associatedtohelminthcontrolextent.Importantaspectsabouttheplantbiology,timeofadministration,aswellaschemicalandbromatologicalanalysesoftheplantmaterialsaresparing.nbsp;Thesearchinformationindicatethattheuseofleaveshaveanthelminticeffect.However,inthemaincases,referencesaboutthecontrolextentandtheparasitespeciescontrolledaremissing.Thelackofthesepiecesofinformationandthelargeheterogeneityoftheformulationsarehindrancesfortheutilizationofthebananaplantasunconventionaltreatmentforthecontrolofhelminthsandotherparasites.nbsp;Furtherscientificstudiesarerecommendedinordertofurnishsecureanddetailedmanegementtechniquesfortheutilizationofthebananaplanttocontrolparasitesindomesticanimals.
