Theobjectiveofthisstudywastocomparesomereproductivetraitsobtainedthroughtraditionalartificialinseminationorintra-uterineinsemination,inapigfarmlocatedatthesouthofYucatan.ThestudywascarriedoutfromMay2002toApril2003inafullcyclefarm,withapproximately3200sows.Theinformationof1454sowsinseminatedwiththeconventionaltechniqueand967recordsofsowsinseminatedwiththeintra-uterinetechniquewereused.Inseminationswerecarriedouttwice(morningandafternoon)withanintervalof12hoursafterestrusdetection.Duringinsemination,aboarwaskeptinfrontofthesowsandbags(8-12kg)wereputonthebackofthesowtosimulatetheweightoftheboar.Dataonfertility(%),numberofpigsborn,numberofpigsbornalive,pigletsborndead(%),mommies(%)andfarrowinginterval(FI)wereanalyzedusingttestandgenerallinearmodels.nbsp;Thetypeofinseminationusedhadeffect(P0.05)onFI,whichleastsquaremeanwasgreaterforthetraditionaltechnique(148.4+0.71days)thanfortheintra-uterinetechnique(145.1+0.59days).Paritynumberhadeffectonallthevariablesstudied.Ingeneral,thefirstandsecondparitysowshadthesmallestlittersizesandthelargerFIwhencomparedwithsowswiththreeormoreparities.nbsp;Inconclusion,theintra-uterineinseminationdidnothaveanydetrimentaleffectontheproductivetraitsstudied.Therefore,consideringtheadvantageofproducingmoredosesperejaculate,theintra-uterinetechniqueisagoodoptiontoincreaserentability,makingthemaximumuseoftheboarswiththebestbreedingvalues.
