Livestockactivityingrazingislimitedbytheseasonalityinforageproductionanditsquality.Underthesecircumstances,energyandproteinsupplementationcanimprovetheproductiveperformanceofanimals.ThestudyaimedtoevaluatetheeffectofsupplementationwithGliricidiasepiumandagro-industrialby-productsontheproductiveperformanceofzebucattle.Twenty(20)commercialbrahmansteers-232kgliveweight-werefedwithdietsconstitutedofpangolahay(60%)(Digitariadecumbens)andconcentrate(40%).Matarratón(MAT,Gliricidiasepim)andagro-industrialby-products(coffeepulp(CP),grapepomace(GP)andcottonseed(CS))accountedfor37.5%oftheconcentrate.Controltreatment(CON)didnotincludethosefoods.FinalweightinCONandCStreatmentswashigherthatobtainedwithCP(p0.05).LowestdailyweightgainwasevidencedinMATandCPtreatments,whichdifferedfromCONtreatment(p0.05).ThebetterfeedgainratiowasobservedinCONandCStreatments,differingfromMATandCPtreatments(p0.05).TheCPtreatmentregisteredalowerconsumptionofdrymatter,proteinandtotaldigestiblenutrients.TheCSandGPinclusionincattlesupplementationistechnicallyviable,resultinginaperformanceequivalenttothatobservedwiththeCONtreatment.
