SamplingdevicesforGlossinaspeciesareimportantinconductingpopulationstudies.BasedonpreviousfindingsontrappingdeviceperformancesinTanzania,experimentswereinitiatedtocomparetheexistingdevicesincapturingthemorsitansgroupoftsetse.FivedifferenttraptypesincludingS3,Nzi,Biconical,Pyramidal,andEpsilonwereevaluatedfortheireffectivenessincapturingGlossinaspeciesintheTarangireNationalPark.Atotalof25traps(fivepertraptype)werecomparedwithoutodorattractantsrelativetoS3trapasastandardinaLatinSquaresof5x5x5(treatmentxsitexdays).Theexperimentswererepeatedtwiceintherainanddryseasons.TheonlytsetsespeciesfoundinthestudyareawereGlossinaswynnertoniandG.pallidipes.ResultsindicatedthattherewasasignificancedifferenceincatchesbetweentrapsandbesttrapswereS3andNzicomparedtoothertraptypes.Thecomparisonofcatcheswithseasonsshowedasignificancedifferenceinflycatchesnbsp;moreflieswerecapturedduringthedryseasonthaninwetseason.Therewasnostatisticalsignificantdifferenceincatchesbetweensex.Observationsshowedastatisticalsignificantdifferencebetweenspecies,G.swynnertonibeingcapturedmorecomparedtoG.pallidipesindryandwetseasons.TheNzitrapwasrecommendedforuseinsamplingofGlossinaspecies(morsitansgroup)intheNorthernTanzaniaduetoitsdesignandcost.
