Productive performance of cows in a dual purpose system in Yucatan, Mexico

Productionandreproductiondataofcowswith50or75%HolsteingeneskeptunderadualpurposesysteminYucatan,Mexicowereanalyzed.Theworkconsistedofaretrospectivestudytypeusing222lactations(n=75cows)locatedatthecenterofYucatán.Thetraitsevaluatedwerecalvinginterval(CI),totalmilkyield(TMY),daysinmilk(DO),dailymilkyieldday(DMY)ofthecow,andbirthweight(BW),weaningweight(WW)andaveragedailygain(ADG)ofthecalf.Thedatawereanalyzedusingfixedmodelsthatincludedtheeffectofbreedgroup,yearofcalving,seasonofcalving,paritynumber,bodyconditionscore,sexofthecalf,andfirstorderinteractions.TheaverageandstandarddeviationforCI,TMY,DO,DMY,BW,WWandADGwere441±92days;1468±312kg;214±66.7days;6.7±1.5kg;33.1±5.9kg,164±29.4kgandGDP564±100g,respectively.Inconclusion,therewasasignificantinfluenceofthenon-geneticfactorsonthetraitsstudied.Theaveragesoftheproductiveandreproductivetraitsofthe50%Holsteinand75%Holsteinbreedgroupsweresimilar
