TheaimofthisstudywastoevaluatetheeffectoftwosourcesofslowreleaseureaoninvitrodrymatterdegradationofKinggrasspasture.Thetreatmentswereevaluatedbytheinvitrogasproductiontechnique.SU=treatmentwithouttheadditionofurea;UP=treatmentwithureacoveredwithbiodegradablepolymer;UCC=treatmentwithprotectedureacalciumcarbonatemicrocapsules;UCOM=treatmentwithcommercialurea.Thevariablesstudiedwere:drymatterdegradation,ammoniaconcentrationandmethaneproduction.Datawereanalyzedusingamixedlinearmodelconsideringasarandomeffectthedonoranimalofinoculumandasfixedeffectsthetreatmentsandtheincubationtime.ThetreatmentswerecomparedbyTukeytest(p0.05).Thetreatmentswithslow-releaseurea(UPandUCC)exhibitedhigherdrymatterdegradation(p0.05)thantheSUandUCOMtreatments.TheUCCtreatmentshowedagreaterdegreeofprotectionbyaminorreleasingofammonia(40%lessthanthetreatmentwithureacommercial)(p0.05).TheUCCtreatmentshowedlowermethaneproductionwhencomparedwiththetreatmentwithcommercialurea(UCOM).Thisfactshowingthattheenergywasusedformicrobialgrowthbeforethanformethaneproduction.Theslow-releaseureasourcesweremoreefficientthanthecommercialureatoachievefurtherdegradationofdrymatterandimprovetheuseofnitrogen.Furthermore,thesesourcesreducedthemethaneandammoniaproduction,potentialenvironmentalpollutants.
