Reproductive performance of local breed of Algerian rabbits raised in experimental station

Thepurposeofourprojectwastostudythereproductionperformanceoflocalbreedofrabbit,inordertodeterminetheparameterswhicharesusceptibleofgeneticimprovementtoselectandtodevelopanimprovedrabbitasalongtermobjective.Thestudywasconductedonfiftyfemalerabbitsoflocalbreed,atthewestexperimentalstation(Lamtar)oftheTechnicalInstituteofBreeding(I.T.E.L.V).Ourexperimentalprotocolconsistedtofollowthereproductiveperformancesofthesefemalesonsixlitters,withanintervaloftwelvedaysofkindling-matingandweaningat35days.Therateoffertilityandweaningwererespectively79.7and87.8%withanintervalof48.8daysbetweentwokindling.Theprolificacyroseto7.98totalsborn,7.59bornalive,6.67weanedperlitterand37.1rabbitsweanedperfemale.Theaverageweightsrecordedatbirthandatweaningoftheyoungrabbitwererespectively52.1gand650g.Mortalityrateswere5.02%forthestillbirthand12.2%betweenbirthandweaning.Parityshowednoeffectontheparametersstudiedexceptforfertilityandintervalbetweenkindling.nbsp;
