Performance traits of finishing pigs housed in bagasse deep bed and fed with diets based on enriched sugar cane molasses

DeepbeddingtechnologytothesmallscalefortheswineproductioninCubawasevaluated.nbsp;SeventytwopigsYLxCC21castratedmaleandfemalepigs(1:1)averaging75daysofageand21kgliveweight,wereusedformeasuringperformancetraitsuptoslaughterweight(approximately100kgliveweight)andalsothepigcarcasscharacteristicsandanimalhealthindexes.nbsp;Thepigswereallottedaccordingtoarandomblocksdesignwithtwotreatments:deepbeddingbasedon80%ofdriedsugarcanebagasseand20%ofgramineoushayandsolidconcretefloor,withfourrepetitionspertreatment.TheanimalsofbothtreatmentsconsumedNUPROVIM-75withenrichedsugarcanemolasses.nbsp;Therewerenosignificantdifferencesforthefeedconversion(kg/kg),dailygain(g/day)andfinalweight(kg)forthepigsindeepbeddingsystemcomparedwiththepigsonconcretefloor:3.08,3.06;868,872;101,101,respectively.nbsp;Itwassaved151m3ofwater.Itwasconcludedthatthedeepbeddingtechnologyforswineproductionisaviablealternativeatthesmallscale.
