Poultry litter and rice polishings as supplements to sugar cane bagasse for lamb fattening

Crossbredlambs(WestAfricanxDorset)of17.6±2.47kgliveweight(n=48)wereallocatedtofourtreatmentswithincreasinglevelsofpoultrylitter(11,nbsp;21,29,38%)replacingricepolishingsnbsp;tomakeup59.4%ofthediet,theremainderbeingamixture(0.6%)ofsaltandsulphur(4:1)andnbsp;sugarcanebagasse(40%).Therewerethreereplications(penseachwith4lambs)ofeachtreatment.Thetriallasted102days.Therewerenodifferencesinfeedintakeamongtreatments.Growthrateandfeedconversiondeterioratedmarkedlyasthelevelofpoultrylitterwasincreased.Thedietwith11%poultrylitter,48%ricepolishingsand40%sugarcanebagassesupportedcommerciallyacceptablelevelsofperformance.
