Potential nutritive value of some forages used in ruminant nutrition in Northern Turkey

Theaimofstudywastodeterminethepotentialnutritivevalueofsomeforagesusingchemicalcomposition,invitrogasproductionkineticsandsomeestimatedparameters.nbsp;Inthisstudy,nbsp;maizehay-MH,grasshay-GH,alfalfahay-AHandvetchhay-VHwereused.Therearesignificantdifferencesamongforagesintermsofchemicalcomposition.Crudeprotein(CP)contentrangedfrom9.17to21.89%.Neutraldetergentfiber(NDF)andnbsp;aciddetergentfiber(ADF)contentsrangedfrom45.40to57.86%and28.07to36.07%.nbsp;Therearealsosignificantdifferencesamongforagesintermsofinvitrogasproduction,kineticsandsomeestimatesofparameterssuchasmetabolizableenergy(ME),netenergylactation(NEL)andorganicmatterdigestibility(OMD).TheME,NELandOMDvaluesofMH,AHandVHweresignificantlyhigherthanthatofGH.nbsp;Thepotentialnutritiveofalfalfaandvetchhayhadasignificantlyhigherthanthoseformaizeandgrasshaywhenchemicalcomposition,gasproductionkineticsandsomeestimatedparameterssuchasME,NELandOMDofforagesweretakenintoconsideration.
