AfeedingtrialwascarriedouttoevaluatetheproteinqualityinwaterspinachorduckweedaloneormixedwhenincludedinabasaldietofbrokenriceforgrowingMuscovyducks.Therewerethreetreatments,consistingindietsgivenadlibitumto24ducks:WS,waterspinachplusbrokenrice(80:20freshbasis);DW,duckweedplusbrokenrice(80:20freshbasis)andMWD,waterspinachandduckweedplusbrokenrice(35:45:20freshbasis).TotalDMintakeandtotalN*6.25intakewerehighestforduckweedastheonlysupplement.Lowestvalueswerewithwaterspinach,withthemixedsupplement(MWD)showingintermediatevalues.nbsp;AveragedailygainwashighestforducksfeddietDW(22.4g/bird/day)andlowestwhenfeddietWS(6.2g/bird/day).Thegrowthrateofduckswaslinearlyrelatednbsp;tototalN*6.25intake(R2=0.89).FeedconversionwaspoorerfordietWSandMWDcomparedwithDW(9.1,4.3and3.8gDM/gainfordietWS,MWDandDWrespectively).Itcanbeconcludedthatgrowthrateofduckscanbeusedtoassaytheproteinqualityfromvegetables.TotalDMintake,totalN*6.25intake,liveweightgainandfeedconversionwerebetterwhentheduckswerefedduckweedratherthanwaterspinachasasupplementtobrokenrice.
