Prediction of zebu cattle live weight using live animal measurements

Thepresentworkwasconductedtopredictliveweightofzebucattleusingexternalbodymeasurements.Atotalof247SudaneseindigenousBaggarabullswereusedforthestudy.Theirliveweightsrangedfrom170to390Kg.nbsp;Thestudyrevealedthatheartgirtharoundthehumphadthehighestcorrelationcoefficientwithliveweight(r=0.83,p0.001)comparedwithotherbodymeasurements.GroupingofdataaccordingtoliveweightindicatedthatheartgirtharoundthehumpingroupB(mediumweight)andC(heavyweight)hadtheclosestcorrelationcoefficientwithliveweight(r=0.66and0.86,respectively).Thisgavemoreconfidenceintheuseoftheformermeasurementinpredictionofliveweightofhumpedcattle.Theregressionanalysisofliveweightonheartgirtharoundthehumpwashighlysignificant(P0.001),andtheregressionlinesindicatedthatalinearrelationshipexisted.Theregressionequationswerealsoobtainedtoestimatetheliveweightofthe#8220;heavy#8221;,#8220;medium#8221;and#8220;light#8221;weightbulls.However,thegeneralequationforpredictionofliveweightofthehumpedcattlewasasfollows:Y=2.4573x#8211;92.472(±0.36),Where,Y=liveweight(Kg),x=heartgirtharoundthehump(cm).
