Bamboo hutches as a replacement for wire mesh cages in rabbit production in Nigeria

nbsp;Astudywasconductedtodeterminethepotentialofusinglocallymadebamboohutchesinrabbitproduction.Twenty-four,twomonths-oldChinchillarabbitswereusedinaCompletelyRandomizedDesigntrial(CRD)thatlastedfor84days(12weeks).Thewiremeshcageusedconsistedofironframeandwiremeshwhilstlocallymadebamboohutches(withwoodenframe)representedlocalhutch.nbsp;Higherweightgainsandbetterfeedefficiency(P0.05)wereobservedinrabbitsplacedinlocalhutchesconstructedofwoodenandbamboomaterial.Highermortalities,totaling33.33%,wereobservedinrabbitshousedinwiremeshcage.Withrespecttothecostofprocuringthehutches,locallymadebamboohutchwassuperioroverthewiremeshcages.
