Anexperimentwasconductedtodeterminetheinfluenceofacombinationoforganicacidsaltsassubstituteforantibioticsontheperformanceandguthealthofbroilerchickens.Onehundredandtwentyday-oldcommercialVencobb-100broilerchickswerepurchasedandrandomlydistributedintothreegroups,withfourreplicatesof10birdsineachgroup.Control(C)birdsweregivenastandardbasaldietwithvirginiamycin@0.5g/kgasantibiotic;Treatment1(T1)wasadietwith1.5g/kgeachofammoniumformateandcalciumpropionateandTreatment2(T2--)adietwith1g/kgeachofcalciumpropionate,ammoniumformateandcalciumlactate.nbsp;Nosignificantdifferencebetweenantibioticandtheacidifiersupplementedgroupswasfoundinliveweightorliveweightgain(LWG).However,cumulativefeedintakewashigher(P0.05)intheantibioticsupplementedgroupcomparedwiththeacidifiersupplementedgroups.Supplementationoforganicacidsaltssignificantlyimproved(P0.05)feedconversionratio(FCR)comparedwiththeantibiotictreatment.Additionofantibioticandacidifierdidnothaveanysignificanteffectoncoliformandclostridiumcountinthefeed,whereasorganicacidsaltsreducedthefungalcount.Escherichiacoliandclostridiumcountsinthegutvariednumericallyamongtreatments,butthedifferenceswerenotstatisticallysignificant.Propionate,formateandlactatesupplementationimproved(P0.05)duodenalvillusheight,whichwasalsoimprovedbyacidifiertreatment.Nochange(P0.05)inpHofdifferentsegmentsoftheG.I.tractwasobservedbetweenthetreatments.
