Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a conservative treatment modality using the combination of a photosensitizer possessing high tumor affinity and irradiation withlaser or light energy at a low intensity which enablesselective destruction of cancerous or dysplastic cellswhile preserving the uterus.8)The purpose of these safety guidelines is to list therequirements that need to be strictly adhered to, inorder to ensure the safety of the patient, doctor andmedical personnel in the course of the PDT procedurefor early stage cancer and dysplasia of the uterinecervix.
