摘要

Australia’s growing refugee population are often faced with communication and cultural barriers to accessing effective health care. This paper discusses various health inequalities experienced by pregnant refugee women as a result of these barriers, and highlights several approaches that health care services and midwives should undertake in order to provide woman-centered care. Utilising accredited interpreter services, understanding cultural sensitivity and involving refugee stakeholders in developing educational and health care policies are some of the strategies highlighted in this essay.
