Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of lemon peel in relieving nausea and vomiting after gastric surgery. Methods 〓To retrospectively analyze the clinical data of 15 patients with postoperative nausea and vomiting(PONV)after gastric surgery. The nursing intervention mainly included stomach tube care, dietary guidance, and pain control. Fresh lemon peel was placed on both sides of patient’s pillow, and patients could inhale the fragrance gave out by lemon peel once they felt nauseated. Results 〓Thirteen patients reported varying degrees of relief from nausea, one refused for disliking lemon flavor and one reported no relief effect. Conclusion 〓The use of fresh lemon peel has been observed to effectively relieve symptoms of dizziness, nausea and vomiting after gastric surgery and was also an addition in reducing pain degree of patients.
