:Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of external application of Glauber's salt on patients with nephrotic syndrome complicated with massive ascites. Methods 〓Totally 80 patients with nephrotic syndrome with massive ascites from January 2016 to January 2017 were randomly divided into observation group and control group, 40 cases in each group. Patients in control group were only treated with basic therapy for nephropathy and routine nursing, based on that, those in observation group were added with Glauber's salt for external application on umbilical part. The clinical efficacy, abdominal perimeter, serum creatinine(Scr)level, and 24-hour urine volume were compared between two groups. Results 〓The response rate of observation group was higher than that of control group(92.50% vs. 65.00%,χ2=9.038, P=0.003). The reduction in abdominal perimeter and Scr level, and the increased in 24-hour urine volume were significantly superior in observation group to control group(P0.001). Conclusion 〓The external application of Glauber's salt can effectively improve the edema and decrease a large amount of ascites, and improve renal function in patients with nephrotic syndrome complicated with massive ascites, so it is worth worthy to be popularized.
