：Objective To compare 2 different materials for nasal packing after the endoscopic sinus surgery. Methods 〓Totally 120 patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery were divided into the observation group(n=60)and the control group(n=60)according to the sequence of hospital admission. The Vaseline gauze as nasal packing material was used in the control group.The absorbable hemostatic gauze and Ivalon sponge were used in the observation group. The postoperative discomfort(headache and pain in the nasal region 24 hours after surgery), bleeding after removing of nasal packing and condition of nasal mucosa were evaluated and compared between two groups. Results 〓Compared with patients in the control group, those in the observation group suffered less postoperative discomfort(χ2=17.277, P0.01), few bleeding after removing of nasal packing(χ2=13.254, P0.01)and less severe mucosa reaction(χ2=13.648, P0.01). Conclusion 〓The application of Ivalon sponge after the endoscopic sinus surgery can effectively reduce the postoperative discomfort, bleeding after removing of nasal packing and related adverse reactions.
