Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of modified corset fixing method in fixing the external catheter of peritoneal dialysis. Methods A total of 82 patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis were divided into two groups according to the sequence of followup number. Forty one patients in the observation group received the modified corset fixing method and another 41 patients in the control group received conventional corset fixing method. The condition of fistula and catheterrelated complications were compared between two groups. The short form 36 health survey (SF36) was performed to evaluate the quality of life before and after treatment. Results The incidence of swelling at fistula exit, tugging pain and catheter dislocation were lower in the observation group than those in the control group (P<0.05). the patients in the observation group had a higher score of SF36 compared with that of the controls (P<0.05). Conclusion Modified corset fixing method may reduce the risk of catheterrelated complications and improve the quality of life in patients with peritoneal dialysis.
