Abstract Sheep were drenched orally with pp′-DDT at the rates of 1, 5, and 25 mgykg body weight. The highest levels of unchanged insecticide in peri-renal fat, omental fat, and subcutaneous back fat were found two weeks after a single dose. Residues were always highest in peri-renal fat. Residues of DDT determined in omental fat are considered to be a reasonable index of the DDT status of fat in the edible carcass of sheep. Neither DDE nor DDD was detected in the fat of individual sheep on the highest DDT intake up to three weeks after dosing. DDT residues in fat in excess of 5 p.p.m. would not be expected in sheep at dose rates below 10 mg DDT/kg body weight. The proportions of ether extractives in crude fat are given for the principal depot fats in sheep.
