:Objective To investigate the effect of empowerment-based psychological nursing on psychological stress and coping style of ICU patients' families. Methods 〓Totally 120 family caregivers of ICU patients were assigned to the observation group and the control group, with 60 cases in each group. All family caregivers received routine psychological care, and those in the observation group were given an empowerment-based psychological intervention. All family caregivers were investigate by the General Self-efficacy Scale(GSES), Trait Cooping Style Questionnaire(TCSQ)and Chinese Perceived Stress Scale(CPSS). Results 〓Family caregivers in the observation group achieved higher scores in GSES, higher positive coping style of TCSQ and lower negative coping style of TCSQ compared with those in the control group(P0.05). The scores of sense of tension, sense of out of control and total score of CPSS were lower in the observation group than those in the control group(P0.01). Conclusion 〓The empowerment-based psychological nursing is potentially effective to improve the positive coping style and relieve the psychological stress of ICU patients' families.
