摘要

High protein intake can increase renal plasma flow andglomerular filtration rate (GFR) in response to excretory overload,which may exacerbate kidney disease progression. Glomerular hy-pertrophy has been shown to be closely associated with sclerosis atthe level of a single nephron in experimental models. However, themechanisms by which an excessive protein diet causes glomerularhyperfiltration and increases single-nephron GFR (SNGFR) have notbeen fully elucidated in humans. The present study aimed to calculateSNGFR by estimating the number of nephrons in living kidney do-nors and to evaluate the clinicopathological findings associated withSNGFR.
