The Oder with all its channels and creeks the creates the city of Wroc?aw. Regulated within the city, separated, because dangerous, but in the end forgotten – at present is being restored for the city in harmony with world trends. Because of it the Oder has a new chance to take part in the social life of Wroc?aw inhabitants. The rapid development of the city at various levels in the last years caused the appearance of many initiatives connected with utilization of the river. Password “Face the Oder” became the driving force behind many activities connected with manning use both of the water of the river and its embankments within the city development is recreation. Recreational goals have become one of important elements of the mentioned development. The city divided by waterways is visibly split into two types of recreational areas connected with the river namely: the inner city area and the peripheral one (the outskirts of the city). The proper aims at analysing the current tendencies of the Oder management and development as well as describing the existing recreational areas. This is thought to be a good opportunity to present a huge potential hidden within the waterside territory. The analyses are meant to describe the types of water and waterside recreation activities alongside with social needs in this field. It should also present possibilities of management and development of the areas in focus.
