This study undertook investigations on the elaboration and determination of the utilization efficiency of tobacco waste in the composting process with municipal sewage sludge and wheat straw and ratio of nicotine biodegradation in examined waste. The research was conducted in isothermal, two-chamber bioreactor for model investigations of organic material degradation in aerobic conditions. The bioreactor was equipped with aeration system, sensors set (temperature and pH) and gas meters (NH3, O2/CO2). The ratio of tobacco waste to sewage sludge was 20% in chamber A and 40% in chamber B. The performed studies indicated, that composting of tobacco waste with sewage sludge decreased C:N ratio in both bioreactors: 17.6 to 13 in chamber A and 18.3 to 12 in chamber B. The consequence of this changes was the reduction of organic matter and CO2 and NH3 emissions. Moreover, the performed investigations indicated the reduction of nicotine from 884 to 195 mg/kg d.m. in chamber A and from 1897 to 379 mg/kg d.m. in chamber B.
