摘要

The concentrations of heavy metals including Iron, Zinc, Manganese, Copper, Lead, Cadmium and Chromium (Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu, Pb, Cd and Cr) in water and sediments in Akampa Local Government Area and their accumulation in fish organs (muscle, gills and liver) of three species of fish commonly found in the stream water were investigated. Water samples obtained within quarry environment showed higher concentrations of most of the studied metals recorded and the levels were above the World Health Organization standards in water. In sediment samples concentrations of heavy metals were higher than (WHO) standards for sediments. Gills and Liver of Heterotis niloticus, Oreochromis niloticus Clarias gariepicus contained the highest concentration of the studied heavy metals, while muscles appeared to be the last preferred site for the bioaccumulation of metals. Therefore, Fish species caught within quarry environment in Akamkpa Local Government Area may pose health hazards for consumers.
