Guest Editorial: Weather conditions and population level mortality in resource-poor settings – understanding the past before projecting the future

摘要

This supplement of Global Health Action show how retrospective, longitudinal, population-basedhealth data from several resource poor settings inAfrica and Asia can enhance the understanding of theimpact of the variability extremes of weather on mortality.This information is key to our understanding of thelocal impacts following from climate change, and to thedevelopment of adaptation strategies to mitigate suchimpacts. While the editors realize the strength of theempirical evidence generated, they also emphasize thatthis is merely a first step in the right direction ‘a proof ofprinciple’ and that there are obvious needs to continuethis work by widening and deepening the research efforts.
