Metsae Board springs towards closed loop future

Metsae Board, part of Metsae Group, is a primary European producer of premium fresh fibre paperboard, enjoying revenues of nearly €2 billion in 2019. Headquartered in Espoo with eight manufacturing sites spread across Finland and Sweden, Metsae Board produces premium lightweight folding boxboards, food service boards and white kraftliners for consumer goods packaging. The predecessor of Metsae Board, Metsae-Serla, was established by a 1986 merger of long-standing Finnish forest industry companies Metsaeliiton Teollisuus Oy and G.A. Serlachius Oy. The company acquired several production sites in the 1990s and early 2000s before it pivoted away from the declining paper business and renamed itself Metsae Board in 2012. A new 400,000 tonnes/year folding boxboard production line starting up at its Husum mill - the firm's largest operating facility - at the beginning of 2016 and the ceasing of its paper manufacturing operations in the same year has positioned Metsae Board as a pure paperboard company today.
