A review of characterization techniques applied in petroleum and geothermal systems was done in this study. Taking into account production and reinjection characteristics of the analyzed field a dynamic characterization was developed using their production data. The production data analysis involves 39 producer wells and six reinjection wells in the entire field, along a period time of about 33 years. The field is divided in two zones: The north zone with 21 producers and four reinjection wells ; the south zone with 18 producers and two reinjection wells. Were applied three methodologies for characterizing production of the Los Azufres geothermal field, obtaining low and similar values in the decline rates along its period exploitation time. The analyzed production parameters are: changes in water flow, steam flow, mass flow, pressure, enthalpy, temperature, behavior of water-steam ratio (WSR). It is possible to assume that there is a small balance between the extracted mass and the recharge water entrance; even this last would be slightly lesser than exploitation, due to determinations in the pressure decrease and enthalpy increase. The total volume reinjected represents about 30% of the produced total mass by the field, which allows assume that production is predominantly sustained by recharge water entrance. Despite many hurdles, the Los Azufres geothermal reservoir has been generating electrical power for about 33 years showing its sustainability along this time perio d. The obtained results through the use of the three methodologies support its reliable appli cation in any other field.
