Data from aerial photographs and satellite images

The use of aerial photography in Greenland began inthe 1930s, in connection with a new systematic mapping programme (Wenzel-Petersen 1970; Nielsen 2000).The oldest photographs were oblique ones. During theSecond World War, the US Air Force covered parts ofGreenland with a combination of oblique and verticalphotographs (trimetrogon). Oblique aerial photographswere also used by the Geodetic Institute in followingyears. These photographs cover large areas, but distantobjects show little detail and more recent series are thusall vertical.
