The increasing of the pollutant emissions to the atmosphere has motivated the interest for the development ofnew technologies for cleaning and sustainable energy generation. In this context, restrictions on pollutantsemissions in the atmosphere, imposed by government agencies, have become more restrictive which leads to theneed for constant research and development of new technologies and properly materials for achieving theseregulations levels. Niobium oxide has attracted attention as catalysts supported on several reactions, but there is little information in the literature about its applicability toward nitric oxide reduction with carbon monoxide. Inthis work, the effect of active phase (copper, iron, nickel and cobalt) in the niobium-supported oxide was studied.The support was obtained by thermal decomposition of niobic acid and catalysts were obtained by impregnation,being characterized by using several techniques. The results showed that the only copper and iron based-catalystswere active in the reaction in the interval of 300 up to 550 0C. These results are related to higher reducibility ofcopper and iron active catalytic sites which participate in the redox cycle of the molecules involved in theactivation of nitric oxide and carbon monoxide.
