摘要

Objectiv e: This study was conducted to identify the activ e constituents of local Iraqi Echinops hetero phyllus plant and to study the effect of the crude extract and s ome of its bioact ive fr actions in w ound healing and as an anti scar agent in v ivo. Materials and Met hods: Phytochemical tests were conducted to identify the bioactive fractions. Twenty four adult male rabbits were used. Aged between six months to one y ear, obtained fr om t he local market and placed in s terilized cages subjected to constant environmental conditions. Tw enty four adult male rabbits w ere used and divided into four equal groups. The effect of crude Echino ps extract and its bioactive fractions (Alkaloids and flav onoids) w as ev aluated vis ually and t hrough histological changes. Treatment was applied three times daily using a cotton swab. Fir st gr oup: w as considered as a control group, and left w ithout treatment. Second group: was considered as a treatment group, and treated w ith cr ude Echino ps extract .Thir d group: w as also consider ed as a treatment group, and treated with alkaloids fraction obt ained from Echinops extract. Fourth group: was cons idered as a treatment group, wounded rabbits w ere treated wit h flav onoids fraction obtained fr om Echinops ext ract. Results: Echinops extract served t o accelerate the wound healing process and specifically increas ed epithelializat ion in treat ment groups compar ed to the untreated group. The group treat ed with the crude extract gave best r esult. Alkaloid fr action was more potent than the flav onoids fraction in treating wounds. Both groups treated w ith the crude extract and alkaloid showed no scar formation. Conclus ion: I t can be concluded that this study is a good step t o show that Echinops extract is effectiv e in s timulating the enclos ure of wounds and as
