Modern digital systems demand increasing electronicresources, so the multiprocessor platforms are a suitablesolution for them. This approach provides better results in termsof area, speed, and power consumption compared to traditionaluniprocessor digital systems. Reconfigurable multiprocessor systemsare a particular type of embedded system, implementedusing reconfigurable hardware. This paper presents a reviewof this emerging research area. A number of state-of-the-artsystems published in this field are presented and classified. Designmethods and challenges are also discussed. Advances in FPGAtechnology are leading to more powerful systems in terms ofprocessing and flexibility. Flexibility is one of the strong pointsof this kind of system, and multiprocessor systems can even bereconfigured at run time, allowing hardware to be adjusted tothe demands of the application.
