摘要

Rapid urbanization and industrialization have caused the spread of pollutants both on the surface and in subsurface systems. The recent attention has shifted from study of groundwater quantity (flow modeling) to a more complex study of groundwater quality (transport modeling). The rapid advancement in computing technology has enabled groundwater modelers to use various numerical models effectively with greater computing efficiency and lesser time. Conceptual model approach could be used in groundwater modeling system (GMS), which is one of the most versatile groundwater modelling softwares. This approach uses GIS tools available in the map module of GMS and has numerous benefits as compared to traditional grid approach. For optimal design of groundwater models hybrid algorithm derived by combining genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swamp optimization (PSO) can be used. This paper attempts to present the versatility of GA-PSO based algorithm in optimal design of groundwater models.
