Chemical properties of groundwater sources situated near river Bandi in the downstream to Pali were studied to assess the environmental impact of the dyeing & printing industry. The wastewater of the printing & dyeing units of Pali had very high concentration of pollutants. It is characterized by very high TDS, chloride, sulphate, bicarbonate and sodium BOD and COD. The BOD is nearly six fold higher to COD. Chromium copper and iron was also recorded in remarkable concentration. After treatment of wastewater in the combine effluent treatment plant (CETP) only BOD and COD were reduced while other parameters remains nearly the same. The concentration of iron increased after the treatment. The impact of the wastewater of the dyeing & printing units was clearly noticeable in the study area. The groundwater of the area became highly polluted and had TDS above 3000 mg/l. No source in the study area was found to be suitable for irrigation as well as drinking purposes.
