Posted July 8, 2020 The Army is looking to increase funding this summer for a trio of munitions projects for the service's top modernization priority ~ the Extended Range Cannon Artillery system, including bolstering funds for an effort that seeks to satisfy U.S. Army Pacific Command's desire for a Multi-Domain Cannon Artillery capability.The Army is asking Congress to reprogram nearly $24 million to boost fiscal year 2020 accounts of three projects: a hit-to-kill variant of the Excalibur guided artillery round, a new long-range variant of the Precision Guidance Kit, and the XM113 Increment 2 high explosive munition.The requests are part of a $2 billion, 55-page omnibus reprogramming request the Pentagon comptroller sent Congress June 23 that seeks to shift funds from lower- to higher-priority needs in FY-20.The Army is seeking to shift $15.5 million into its ammunition procurement accounts this summer to buy additional rounds of the Excalibur M982 guided artillery rounds that are part of a project to deliver a hit-to-kill munition for ERCA."Funds are required in order to procure 195 additional rounds and maintain the line at Raytheon for this critical munition until the Army makes a down-select decision on Cannon Delivered Area Effects Munitions (C-DAEM) Armor (Increment 1)," the reprogramming states.
