Agriculturalproductionisanactivitythatgeneratesenvironmentalimpacts,primarilyassociatedwiththeuseofmachineryandchemicalinputs.Forthisreasonitisexpectedthatculturalpracticesandtechnologicallevelswillinfluencesignificantlytheenvironmentalimpactsofdifferentproductionsystems.Inthisstudyweevaluatedconventionalandorganicmethodsusinglifecycleassessment(LCA).Theresultsidentifiedsoilmanagementasthestageofconventionalproductionthatgeneratesthegreatestenvironmentalimpact;themostaffectedimpactcategorieswereacidification,with15.28kgSOsub2/subequivalentpertonofgrainproduced,andeutrophication,with4.83kgPOsub4/subeq/tonofgrain.Thecategorymostaffectedbyorganicproductionwassoilmanagement,mainlyduetotheDieselfuelusedinagriculturalmachinery.Inthisproductionmethodthecategoryofabioticresourcedepletionhadthegreatestimpact,with0.89kgSbeq/tonofgrain.Theuseofcompostasastrategyfixedimportantamountsofbiogeniccarbon,generatingenvironmentalbenefitsintheimpactcategoryofclimatechange#150;4.39kgCOsub2/subeq/tonofgrain./font
