Effects of Lumbar Stabilization Exercise in Management of Pain and Restoration of Function in Patients with Postero Lateral Disc Herniation

Objective: Objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of lumbar stabilization exercise in mana-gement of pain and restoration of function in patients with postero lateral disc herniation. Methodology: In this randomized controlled trial 100 patients were taken. Using non-probability conveni-ence sampling patients were divided into 2 groups, i.e. In Group A – patients were managed with lumbar sta-bilization exercises and in Group B patients were man-aged with conventional physical therapy. Final assess-ment was based on the following Oswestry scale. Results: Mean age of patients in Group – A was 35.66 ± 6.34 years and in Group-B mean age was 37.96 ± 4.25 years. Before treatment total assessment score in Group – A and in Group – B was 16.13 ± 3.42 and 18.80 ± 3.06. After treatment total assessment score in Group – A and in Group – B was 6.90 ± 2.68 and 13.53 ± 3.07 respectively. According to p-value significant difference was present in both groups. i.e.?(p-value = 0.000).Conclusion: The Lumbar Stabilization exercises pro-vide significantly better results compared with conven-tional physical therapy regimen in patients with disc herniation. Lumber stabilization exercises were safe and easy to perform.
