Dignity-centered Care Model: an Attempt to Maintain Mutual Dignity Between the Patient and the Health System

Dignity-centered care model has recently attractedattentions in the literature. The International Council ofNurses emphasizes the provision of dignity-centered carecoupled with ethic, and the World Health Organizationasserts that access to dignif ied care must get an upper handin the world. The present study aims to propose a model fordignity-centered care. In this study, a hybrid model wasused as the research method. The research protocolincluded literature review, f ield study, analysis, and modeldevelopment strategy. Dignity-centered care is associatedwith the maintenance of mutual dignity between thepatient and the health system. We found, by maintainingmutual dignity between the patient and care providers,dignity-centered care increases mutual trust andsatisfaction, mutual understanding, effectivecommunication and also improves the quality of caretaking.
