In orderto estimateheritability and relationships among traits, 43diploid sugar beet half-sib familieswereevaluated in a randomised completeblock design withthreereplications in two locations (Karaj and Miandoab) indrought stress condition. Results of combined analysis ofvariance showed that therewas significantdifferencebetween the two locations in termsof rootyield, sugaryield, white sugar yield, alkalinity, chlorophyll content, water useefficiency, specific leafweightand leafsucculence index. There were also significant differences among genotypesforall traits except potassium content, white sugar yield and specificleaf weight. The genotypeby environmentinteraction was significant onlyfor sodium, potassium, alkalinity and extraction coefficient of sugar. Theheritability values estimated forroot yield, sugar content, white sugar content, sugar yield, extraction coefficient ofsugar, white sugar yield and chlorophyll content were60.61%, 87.10%, 90.88%, 47.90%, 83.91%, 64.0% and 81.11%, respectively. Thehighest genetic gainbelonged to root yield, extraction coefficient of sugar, chlorophyll content and sugar content, respectively. White sugaryield showed asignificant positive correlation with root yield, sugarcontent, sugar yield, extraction coefficient of sugar, whitesugar content, chlorophyll content, water use efficiency and specificleaf weight and significantnegative correlationwith sodium, potassium, alkalinity and molasses sugar. Furthermore, sugar yield, molasses sugar and white sugarcontent explained 99% of white sugar yield variation and wereidentified asthemost effectivetraits on white sugaryield. Finally, based onthe results of cluster analysis, 43sugarbeet genotypes were divided intothree groups withthesuperiorgenotypes being placed in the firstcluster.
