Peer review report 1 on 'Intestinal perforation and peritonitis due to Taenia saginata: a case report from Iran'

摘要

Interesting case report but confusing terms used such as 'invasion tumour necrosis' for a benign pathology.Background description is acceptable but the case report is flawed grammatically and in the chronology of events.Use of past tense and presenttense in description is inappropriate. Relevance of psychiatric history in the middle of investigations is questionable.Description of pathology is not consistent with that mentioned in the abstract.Initial laparotomy was done for CT finding of 2 small bowel mass lesions in the retroperitoneum. Reason for second laparotomy leading topatients death is not well explained but in the conclusion assumes high mortality is due to the parasite causing perforation and peritonitis.Learning points are not consistent with the case report. Small bowel obstruction is not diagnosed by parasitological tests but by plain xrayabdomen which is not mentioned in the report.Overall, though the case is an interesting one, reporting is not of a publishable standard.
