摘要

We are happy to dedicate this paper to our friend andcolleague, Josiah H. Townsend, Associate Professor ofBiology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, in Indiana,Pennsylvania. Over the last two decades, since he wasa student in one of Larry Wilson’s classes, Joe has builtan imposing reputation as the principal authority on theherpetofauna of the biogeographically significant ChortísHighlands of northern Central America. During thistime he amassed important collections, and their studyis demonstrating that the herpetofaunal diversity of thisregion of Mesoamerica has been seriously underestimated, especially among anurans, salamanders, and squamates.
